While working from home has allowed for the development of good behaviors, such as substituting the daily drive with a trip to the gym, bad behaviors have crept into work routines during the last two years. It’s not only because we’ve sat too near to the refrigerator.

According to workplace experts, workers’ unproductive behaviors developed during the epidemic are causing burnout and tiredness.
Here are some of the bad behaviors that should be abandoned by 2021:
Meetings that are needless
According to Gartner researcher Neal Woolrich, one bad habit that employees need to avoid is the inclination to plan too many meetings to make up for a lack of face-to-face interaction.
“Right now, burnout and exhaustion are a major concern. So, in order to avoid burnout, I believe people should regulate their workloads.”
According to Chris Anderson, head of workplace technology for Cisco Australia and New Zealand, many individuals have gotten accustomed to “booking in” the spontaneous discussions they have during the day at work.

According to Angela Ferguson, co-founder of workplace consultancy Future X Collective, presenteeism – appearing early to work or constantly offering to lead team meetings to be “seen” – has developed in the age of remote work.
Workers respond to emails or messages at any time of day or attend as many Zoom or Teams meetings as possible, according to Ferguson, to demonstrate that they are working when out of sight.
However, seeming productive does not always imply being productive.
“Virtual presenteeism is a negative habit that many individuals have developed working from home, feeling the need to attend every virtual meeting but multitasking while doing so by turning off their camera so that other participants in the conference are unable to visibly connect,” Ferguson adds.

Experts advise people who no longer have to drive to work to reallocate the extra hours to other things, such as going for a stroll outside, rather than prolonging the workweek.
According to Dr. Jemma King, creator of BioPsychAnalytics and a specialist in how people handle stress, failing to separate the working from home time can lead to mental tiredness and the feeling that the day never ends.
One strategy to stop this bad behavior is to have a clear awareness of when the day is done and to establish a new evening routine, such as strolling around the block to simulate a journey home.
“Write a doable list in the morning, conclude the day after the chores are completed, and then put your laptop away,” King suggests.
Staying indoors all day
Workers are more sedentary if they do not walk to work or between meetings, and even if the restroom and kitchen are closer than they would be at work.
“Humans are made to move,” adds King. “From an evolutionary standpoint, people were only still when they were sick or injured.”
“If you are sedentary, your primitive brain will believe you are sick, causing you to withdraw socially – so you don’t infect the clan – and making you drowsy – so you heal.” These two bad behaviors are similar to the signs of depression.“
Similarly, being inside all day and working in a restricted place might have a negative impact on one’s health.
